First
Day Newsletter
September
10th / 11th
Dear
parents and/or guardians,
Welcome
back to a new school year! I hope you and your family are staying safe through
these unprecedented past months. My name is Mr. Jung and I will be your child’s
Grade 3 teacher during the 2020-2021 school year.
Communication
1.
Edsby will be our main form of
communication. Edsby is our board approved online communication tool that allows
you to receive important reminders and announcements, communicate with teachers
via text messages, submit absences and sign up for parent-teacher interviews.
Once you sign on, you should be able to click on your child’s name and any new
posts from all your child’s teachers will appear. Please ensure that you have
created an Edsby account.
2.
You
can always reach me by phone at (905) 585-0001 Ext 139. If your message
is urgent, please contact the office as I will not be able to check your voice
message until the end of the school day.
3.
Agendas are available for $5.5
on School Cash Online. Although agenda notes will not be used as a parent-teacher communication
tool in efforts to reduce contact and sharing of materials this year, it is, however, a
great tool for a child to organize their learning and responsibilities. It is
encouraged that your child has one.
4.
A
classroom blog will be used to keep you up to date with our learning and share
extra resources and virtual newsletters. I will announce any update through
Edsby announcement. Please do not follow or reply to posts as I will not be
able to respond to any communication on or through the blog platform.
5.
To
discuss your child’s progress in Social Studies or Physical Education, please
contact Ms. Ciacci directly at Ext. 121. For Music, contact Mr. Falcao at Ext.
228.
Things
your child needs to bring to school
School
supplies:
The school will be providing most of the necessary school supplies (colouring
materials, pencils, erasers, etc.). Students are permitted to bring their own materials,
however, please ensure that no toys and disruptive objects (i.e. flashing lights,
noisy, dangerous, heavily scented, etc.) are brought to school.
Over-ear
headphones:
For listening practice, there will be activities that require individual
listening of audio-visual materials. For hygiene reasons, it is highly recommended
for each child to bring a set of headphones for their own personal use.
Change
of clothes:
Please send your child to school with an extra change of clothing (i.e. shirt,
pants, underwear, socks) labelled in a Ziploc bag in case of accidents or unfavourable
weather conditions.
Water
bottles:
The water filling stations at school will be available. Please provide a reusable
water bottle for your child (either plastic or metal. No glass, please.)
Tissue: If possible, please send
a box/pack or two of tissue with your child for use in class.
Important
information
Physical
Education:
We have Physical Education classes on Day 1 and 3 of the 5-day rotary schedule.
Your child will not need a change of clothing for these periods, but it is
recommended that your child wear loose fitting clothing. Running shoes are mandatory.
Library: Library visits and book
loans are cancelled until further notice.
Food
safety: Students
will be eating their snack before the first recess. Please remember that we are
a nut-free school due to life-threatening allergies of our school community
members. Food sharing and distribution is strictly forbidden due to allergies
and dietary restriction (e.g. birthday & special occasion treats to share
with the class).
Mask
use: Grade
3 students are strongly encouraged to wear a mask. Please consider sending a couple
of extra masks for backups. It is useful to provide separate storage cases for clean
and used masks (e.g. a fanny pack or a pouch). For more information on our health
and safety protocols regarding COVID-19, please refer to the board
communication at www.yrdsb.ca
